Ferdinand Carré was a Frenchman who claimed to be the first commercial developer of refrigeration. Carré designed a refrigeration system for another very successful cargo ship, the S.S. Paraguay. The S.S. Paraguay sailed from Argentina to La Havre, France with a still frozen cargo of meat.
